Hang Drum

La primera vez que escuche y vi este instrumento fue por las calles de París, allí estaba una chica sentada en el suelo, al lado de la plaza de los pintores, golpeándolo sutilmente... En ese momento ya su sonido me envolvió...

Hoy me sigue fascinando y sorprendiendo.

El Hang es un instrumento de percusión, se puede decir que ha sido fruto de la unión del arte, de la ciencia y de la tecnología. Fue creado en los laboratorios de la compañía PANArt, por Felix Rohner y Sabina Schärer en un pueblo de Suiza en el año 2000. Después de 25 años de investigación científica con acero y otros instrumentos de percusión resonante de todo el mundo, como el Gong, el Gamelan, el Ghatam, etc nació Él, gracias a la visita de un percusionista de música carnática al pueblo de suizo de Bern para ver a los "investigadores – artesanos".

“El percusionista tocó simultáneamente sus tres Gatham (instrumentos de barro con forma de florero usados comúnmente en la ancestral música del sur de la India)… de casualidad dio a entender que le gustaría tener más sonidos… El tocó varios instrumentos que estaban en nuestro taller usando sus manos en vez de palitos. Fue así como nos dió el impulso de agarrar dos piezas semiesféricas del Pang y juntarlas. Una de las piezas estaba afinada con siete sonidos. Por lo tanto este instrumento se compone de dos partes, la parte de arriba se llama Ding presenta una estructura circular con 9 tonos musicales distintos, 8 en las hendiduras de alrededor y uno más bajo al centro, los que su vez tienen sobretonos que sirven para generar las armonías. La cara inferior se llama Gu, tiene de un orificio central de resonancia para amplificar el sonido generado dentro del Hang.

Pocos son los que tienen este instrumento, pero ya hay algunos músicos que han dedicado tiempo a especializarse en el, como Dante Bucci o el chileno Ignacio Rodriguez, creando un estilo de música con sonidos totalmente místicos.

Después de llevar mucho tiempo admirando este instrumento y sus sonidos, tuve la oportunidad de tenerlo entre mis manos... y verdaderamente fue algo increíble, me transmitió una energía imposible de explicar, una vibración que recorrió todo mi cuerpo...
